| Additional Requirements and Information: | 1) Must be a New York State resident and must have resided in New York State for twelve (12) continuous months prior to the beginning of the term; 2) Must plan to attend a State University of New York (SUNY) or City University of New York (CUNY) two or four year college; 3) Must have a combined federal adjusted gross income of $125,000 or less; 4) 2017 New York State income tax return(s) required; 5) FAFSA required; 6) FAFSA SAR required; 7) NYS Tuition Assistance Program application, if applicable, required; 8) Must take thirty (30) academic credits per year (including Summer and Winter sessions); 9) Must be and stay on track to graduate on time with an Associate’s Degree in two (2) years or a Bachelor’s Degree in four (4) years; 10) Must be in a non-default status on a student loan made under any New York State or federal education loan program or on the repayment of any New York State award; 11) Transcript(s) required; 12) Unofficial transcript(s) accepted; 13) Scholarship award payable in the following installments: Recipients of the Excelsior Scholarship may receive up to $5,500.00 or actual tuition, whichever is less, for up to four (4) academic years (Bachelor’s degree) or up to two (2) academic years (Associate’s degree); 14) For applicants pursuing an undergraduate program of study normally requiring five (5) years, the Excelsior Scholarship program allows five (5) years to complete the requisite degree on time (which requires completion of the equivalent of 30 credits each academic year).
NOTE: Recipients must also plan to live in New York State for the length of time they received the award. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the conversion of scholarship award to a no-interest loan. |
