Additional Requirements and Information:

1) Must reside in New York City, New York; 2) Project proposal identifying two to three story ideas tied up by a common theme in applicant’s chosen neighborhood required (900 words max); 3) Resume/Curriculum Vitae (“CV”) required; 4) Two-three writing samples that best illustrate the kinds of articles applicant would like to write for Open City. Samples should not be more than three (3) pages each and must be uploaded to the application form as PDFs or MS Word documents. They should be double-spaced, in 12-point font size, and should not include publication information; 4) Fellowship awarded as follows: Recipients receive a $2,500.00 award, skill-building workshops and publishing opportunities.
NOTE:
o The fellowship spans six (6) months, starting in September 2018 and ending in March 2019.
o The fellowship is looking for writers to create deft, engaging narratives that bring the face, name, place, and heart of the community to issues like racial profiling, police surveillance, and Islamophobia.
o AAWW recognizes the heterogeneity of the Muslim community in New York City, and we are looking to create a home for writers from Arab American, West Asian, Central Asian, Iranian, Afghan, East and North African, Black Muslim, South Asian, and Southeast Asian communities in New York City.
o Applicants for the fellowship need not be Asian-American, but must be persons of color.
