Additional Requirements and Information:
1)  Min. 3.0 GPA; 2) Must self-identify as a “student of color;” 3) Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age; 4) Must have secured an on-site Journalism internship in Washington, D.C.; 5) Demonstrated participation in extracurricular and community service activities; 6) Resume required; 7) Transcript(s) required; 8) Unofficial transcript(s) accepted; 9) Scholarship awarded as follows:  Recipients will receive a stipend of $1,000.00 per month and free housing provided through Washington Intern Student Housing (WISH) for the duration of the student’s internship, usually four (4) months. WISH housing is valued at $6,000.00 per semester.
NOTE:
  • 2022 was the inaugural year for this scholarship award.
  • This new scholarship program provided free housing and a monthly stipend to support student journalists of color who plan to intern at news media outlets in Washington, D.C., beginning in 2023.
  • Graduating seniors may apply for this scholarship if their internship takes place in the semester immediately following graduation.
