Scholarship offered by the NLGJA to minority LGBTQ students.

Additional Requirements and Information:

1)  Must be an LGBTQ (“Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer”) person of color; 2) Must be enrolled in a U.S. college or university; 3) Must be planning to pursue a degree leading to a career in Journalism; 4) Demonstrated participation in extracurricular and community service activities; 5) Resume required; 6) Proof of enrollment required; 7) Five (5) work samples required; 8) Must write and publish a news story to tumbler using words and multimedia from one (1) of the following topics:

O Profile a senior LGBT activist in your community. Use text, video, audio, stills, and/or infographics to show this person’s story and role in the community;

O Address a legislative initiative in your community that impacts the LGBTQ population. Use text, video, audio, stills, and/or infographics to show the impact;

O Cover an LGBTQ event in your community. Use text, video, audio, stills, and/or infographics to cover different aspects of the event.

 

NOTE:

O For undergraduates, a declared major in Journalism and/or communications is desirable, but not required.

O Non-journalism majors may demonstrate their commitment to a Journalism career through work samples, internships, and work on a school news publication, online news service or broadcast affiliate.

• Graduate students MUST be enrolled in a Journalism program.
