High school students! It’s that time again!  The annual Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) “Voice of Democracy” Patriotic Audio Essay Competition has opened just in time for most of you to start well before your class schedules get hectic!  This year, the VFW will award more than $2 million in scholarships and prizes, including a top prize which includes a $30,000.00 scholarship and all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for two (2)! There will also be plenty of generous national level scholarships ranging from $1,000.00 – $16,000.00 and every VFW Department state level winner receives at least $1,000.00 (some local competitions even award additional funds).

This competition is open to high school students in grades 9-12 enrolled in a U.S. public, private, parochial school or home study program.  This year’s theme, “Why Is The Veteran Important,” is a great way to bring attention to a pressing topic, making this the perfect opportunity for YOU to share your thoughts and views on this very important subject! There’s a good chance that you have a veteran in your immediate or extended family, so weigh in with your opinion because they’re a vital part of our past and present in more ways than one.  Why not use this opportunity to weigh in with your thoughts AND simultaneously compete for generous college scholarships??!!

Entry form and audio submissions are due to your local VFW NLT October 31, 2022! U.S. citizenship is not required, but applicants must be a lawful U.S. permanent resident or have applied for permanent resident status (and have submitted an application that has not been denied) and plan to become a U.S. citizen at the earliest opportunity permitted by law.

Best of luck to all you smart scholars!
