Additional Requirements and Information:
1)  Must be of Latino heritage or ancestry (you or someone from your family, a parent or grandparent, was born in or have ancestors from a Latin American country); 2) Must be between 18 and 25 years old as of January 1, 2024; 3) Must have prior Culinary education and/or training experience with the ability to prove one or more of the following:
  • Studied in a National Restaurant Association’s Pro Start Program
  • Studied in a Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP)
  • Studied culinary arts in a high school instructional program (not listed above)
  • Studied Culinary Arts at a community workforce development program
  • Studied Culinary Arts at a community college or other post-secondary school
  • One (1) year or more of restaurant kitchen or other professional kitchen experience
4)  Applicant cannot have been convicted of a felony; 5) Must have the ability to use the English language in spoken and written contexts while completing the Culinary Arts program; 6) Copy of high school diploma/G.E.D. Certificate required; 7) Proof of age required; 8) Letters of recommendation must be from a Food Service employer or Culinary Arts instructor with whom applicant has worked and/or studied with (A letter from an additional instructor or another type of employer or community leader will be accepted if applicant has not worked with a food service employer; no family members); 9) Scholarship awarded as follows:  The program will award four (4) young Latinos, the incoming Class of 2024, with a full scholarship including:
  • Full tuition to attend the New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute (NOCHI) for their Culinary Arts Certificate Program operating January – June 2024, which includes school supplies, fees, classroom instruction, career services support, and a capstone project.
  • Housing in New Orleans for the duration of the program
    Travel to New Orleans for the start of the program and home upon completion (flights, taxis, etc.)
  • Monthly stipend for bus and streetcar ground transportation for the duration of the program
  • Monthly $250.00 grocery stipend for the duration of the program
  • One (1) week internship tailored to the student’s career interests
  • Mentorship from Chef Aarón Sánchez and other industry professionals
